Degree Description

Completion of this degree will build upon the development of soft skills obtained during the gateway certificate. Students will also deepen their understanding of both research and theory pertaining to healthy marriage and family functioning. Whereas the gateway certificate provides many skills related to healthy family functioning, the advanced certificate will deepen their understanding of family dynamics through a more thorough discussion of principles, research, and theory (as well as additional skills). With the completion of this certificate, students are well prepared with a foundational understanding of the science, theory, and doctrine pertaining to successful marriages and families. Students who complete this certificate will have an advanced understanding of family functioning and demonstrate basic communication and money management skills.

Create practical plans for improving marital and family functioning.

Synthesize relevant research findings pertaining to marriage and family studies.

Effectively advocate for and, "promote...measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society."
